มีคำถามอยู่บ่อยๆ ว่าเยาวชนไทยที่ไปแข่งขันหุ่นยนต์แล้วได้รับรางวัลนานาชาติกลับมานั้นหายไป ไหนหมด รองปลัด ก.วิทย์จึงผุดไอเดียฟื้นโครงการเพื่อให้เยาวชนเหล่านั้นได้รวมกลุ่มกันสร้าง หุ่นยนต์ขึ้นมาอีกครั้งหลังจากเรียนจบไปแล้ว โดยจะสนับสนุนทั้งค่าอุปกรณ์ ค่าเดินทางไปแข่งขัน และการผลิตเพื่อใช้จริง
รศ.ดร.วีระพงษ์ แพสุวรรณ โฆษกและรองปลัดกระทรวงวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี เผยว่า ในสมัยที่ ศ.ดร.ยงยุทธ ยุทธวงศ์ เป็นรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงวิทยาศาสตร์ฯ นั้นอดีต รมต.เคยเปรยว่าเยาวชนที่แข่งขันหุ่นยนต์แล้วได้รางวัลนั้นหายไปไหน จึงได้มอบหมายงานให้ทางสำนักงานพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งชาติ (สวทช.) ตั้งโครงการสนับสนุนเกี่ยวกับหุ่นยนต์
รองปลัด ก.วิทย์กล่าวว่าจะไปสอบถามว่าโครงการดังกล่าวยังดำเนินการอยู่หรือไม่ หากไม่ได้ทำแล้วจะได้ปัดฝุ่นใหม่เพื่อสนับสนุนกลุ่มเยาวชนที่มีความสามารถใน การด้านหุ่นยนต์ โดยจะให้การสนับสนุนทั้งในเรื่องค่าอุปกรณ์ ค่าเดินทางไปแข่งขันยังต่างประเทศ รวมถึงการสนับสนุนให้มีการพัฒนาหุ่นยนต์ที่สามารถใช้งานได้จริง เพื่อให้เยาวชนเหล่านั้นได้ทำงานเกี่ยวกับหุ่นยนต์ต่อไป โดยไม่ใช่รูปแบบหน่วยงานที่จ้างทำงานอย่างถาวรแต่อยู่ในรูปของโครงการ
“เด็กที่เขาเซียนในเรื่องหุ่นยนต์นั้น เขาถนัดในเรื่องการควบคุมทางด้านซอฟต์แวร์หรือฮาร์ดแวร์ ซึ่งเป็นองค์ความรู้ที่ประกอบเข้าเป็นหุ่นยนต์ ดังนั้นเขาจึงเข้าทำงานที่ไหนก็ได้ และได้รับค่าตอบแทนสูงๆ” รศ.ดร.วีระพงษ์ให้เหตุผลถึงกรณีที่ไม่มีเยาวชนสานต่อด้านการทำหุ่นยนต์เพราะแต่ละคนแยกย้ายไปทำงานในบริษัทต่างๆ ตามที่ตัวเองถนัด
ทั้งนี้ เป็นการเปิดเผยระหว่างการแถลงข่าวจัดงานเทคโนโลยีและนวัตกรรมไทย 2554” หรือ เทคโนมาร์ท-อินโนมาร์ท 2011 (TechnoMart-InnoMart2011) โดยงานจะจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 5-13 ม.ค.55 ณ ฮอลล์ 9 อิมแพค เมืองทองธานี ภายใต้แนวคิด “โลกสดใส ไทยยั่งยืน ด้วยเทคโนโลยีและวันตกรรมไทย” พร้อมงานบีโอไอแฟร์ 2011 (BOI Fair 2011) และมีไฮไลท์เป็นการจัดแสดง “หินดวงจันทร์” และผลิตภัณฑ์สำหรับอุปโภคและบริโภคในอวกาศ อาทิ ไอติมอวกาศ อาหารเช้าอวกาศ เสื้อยืดไร้แบคทีเรีย เป็นต้น
